How to Pair Your IPad with the Amazon Echo Alexa

If you got a new Amazon Echo device for Christmas and set it up via your iPhone or iPad, you might have a serious problem on your hands. In the days after Christmas, a fake app for iOS presenting itself as an official Amazon Alexa app climbed the charts on Apple’s App Store. The app, called “Setup for Amazon Alexa,” fooled enough people that it reached No. 60 on the Top Free apps section of the entire App Store.

Keep in mind that this seems to be somewhat of a unique situation, since Apple’s app approval guidelines are typically very strict. And it’s even more surprising that it’s still available to download as of late Thursday morning. Maybe key App Store staff is still on Christmas vacation? But these apps do slip past sometimes, especially at the Google Play Store. For this app, the official version is developed by

AMZN Mobile, LLC, so look for that before downloading. And it shows up in the App Store’s Music section, not Utilities. If you have an Alexa-enabled Fire tablet, the real app is downloaded automatically. And as with any app, take a look at the reviews before installing.

It’s an ongoing question but I’m after a definitive answer; where are we with the Alexa app update – particularly on iOS – to allow Alexa calls and messaging? I’ve read threads saying folks now have the ability to use it but neither I nor my friends aren’t seeing any updates to the app Alexa on iOS store.

We’re therefore without the speech bubble icon in the app signifying that we’ve got those features (as well as drop in). Anyone on iOS (in the UK) who has the update – through the iOS AppStore? I have a iPhone (a old iPhone5 to be exact) and I was able to make calls the first time I tried on Thursday with no recent app update. My guess is that it is already built into the app but is being setup/configured still on the Amazon side of things.

How does Alexa know to turn on the screen when my Fire tablet is in Show Mode?

Remember when she was an incredibly useful assistant? Not really. Cortana was always borderline useless in my opinion. She has a very limited skill set (Reminders, calendar, check traffic/news/weather, provide facts, etc) that every other assistant already had. Sure there were a few unique features like person-based reminders, but not enough to convince users to switch.

Another problem was that Cortana was very obtrusive and annoying on Windows 10 PCs. When users clicked the search bar on Windows 10 they were greeted with a prompt to sign into Cortana. People thought they were pulling up a traditional search bar (ala Windows 7/8) on Windows that they could use to search applications, files on their PC. This was very obtrusive and lead to resistance against Cortana.

The AD guards and VPN installed in your device may prevent Alexa app from completing the setup process. Ensure that you disable them and then try again to complete the setup process with your Alexa app. It is evident that updating of apps and system is likely to solve many major software issues in any device. The same applies when facing problems like Alexa app stuck on the setup process.

 1. Go to the Google Play Store on your phone.

2. Search for Android System Web View.

3. Click on update if it is available.

 4. After updating the system, you can try to set up the Alexa app once again. If none of the above solutions worked, you should then consider uninstalling the Amazon Alexa app from your phone. This will get rid of the entire app, therefore, getting rid of all the issues related to the app.
